MSDE 7.0 vs. MSDE 2000 licensing

When I install the MSDE that is suppose to be MSDE 2000 i got the sql server desktop engine (i think).

So according to my last search on the MSDN for the Sql Server Desktop Engine, it was suppose to require a client access license similar to SQL Server. So, is the MSDE that came with VS.Net deployment safe? (without requiring additional license)

In my SQL Server 2000 Programming book by Robert Vienira it says this about the MSDE: "This edition is small and freely distributable, and Microsoft is pushing it as the new database engine for Access (replacing Jet). This makes it great for salespeople who need a database to take on the road with them."

I don't know all about the salespeople part, but just the same, it is freely distributable.

Don't confuse the MSDE with the other versions out there though:
    Windows CE Edition
    Personal Edition
    Standard Edition
    Developer Edition
    Enterprise Edition
And if you want to call it one the Enterprise Evaluation Edition which is just a 120 day trial period. At least that is what the book says.

The MSDE is just the Data Engine. If you want something like access, your going to have to get the Personal Edition of SQL Server, or continue using Access.
