    Exclamation

    Hello people,

I know this will sound like a dodgy request, but I'm intrigued to know how the LoveBug, or Love letter or or I Love You virus worked. I found some of the code on the internet, but the author of the webpage had scrapped several lines of code near the end that appeared to interrupt the program flow. I assume he's done this at strategic points throughout the script to stop people running it, but it's hard to tell when somethings been taken out. I must be the only person in the world who wasn't sent this monstrosity. My intentions are purely educational, for all of you people out there who think that I'm a nutter.

In short, does anyone out there have an original copy of the LoveBug that they can send me? Much appreciated fellers

I believe James edited that thread and the code is no longer on this site. Try searching http://www.planet-source-code.com or the internet for it.

    I didn't get it either

But I got the code from someone else. It's actually quite good, but it does contain several bugs.

I have the full *commented by me* sourcecode. If you want it... e-mail me at *****@*****.nl
    {removed e-mail, no more need for it to be here}

One thing, you MUST promise me NOT to use it for purposes other than looking at it, people are still stupid enough to run this when they get it in their e-mail.

I saw the code actually had
    set MYVAR = Nothing
to save up resources what a kind man

***** virusses, so please don't send it to anyone, "Here's a gun, point it at somebody you hate, but promise me, don't pull the damned trigger!", anyway, there are a lot of posts about giving away dangerous code so don't go into it.

    Thumbs up Cheers fellers

Thanks guys! I can assure you that I'm as much anti-virus as the next bloke (I've been hit by a stinger or two myself in my time), but being a curious soul I can't help but want to know how they work. da_silva, I think you're confusing the smell of rats with the smell of your own paranoia.

Plus, half of my close relatives are the people refered to by Gerco:

"...people are still stupid enough to run this when they get it in their e-mail."
    Parents, eh?

Thanks again guys, I'm off to make sense of it now.

Man I had to go through about three Norton screens just to open that up in Notepad.

    Angry

Norton deserves a good hard slap if you ask me.

pir8eer, you've just ensured that this originally harmless post will be removed by the moderator.

Also, a note to graham.flynn, I really don't like being patronised. Please don't belittle my innocent curiosity with your own assertions that everyone in the world is out to do damage. Ever occured to you that someone may just want to understand things? A thirst for destruction shouldn't be confused with a thirst for knowledge. I'm 18 and I'm going to Oxford uni in England to study Physics next month, and I really have no intention of *****ing up my life by getting into unnecessary trouble for distributing a plagiarised virus created by some Philipino moron. I'm glad you "definitely smell a rat" because I "definitely smell a self-righteous idiot". (I did you the favour of correcting your spelling of definitely - I think I deserve a thank you )

Ok,ok so I got off my trolley a bit …

But if you spent as much time cleaning up this mess as I have then so would you.

You know that by making this code available that someone ‘will’ accidentally put it back into circulation (granted you may have honourable intentions) and not everybody has up to date virus scanners.

By the way – thanks for the spelling correction – never could spell.

I’m not self righteous – I wish I was good enough at this game so I could be. But when you spend a few years in industry you will soon realise that other people are lazy, curious without being careful and the result can costs jobs.

You may never intend to use the code but you can be guaranteed that some idiot will.

    p.s.

You innocently asked how the code worked and someone gave out the whole thing – see what I mean?

    pir8eer

I wouldn't apologize..the guy never even said "Thank You"

and the question deserves to get deleted anyway...this is a VB Q & A...you know for people with Visual Basic Questions concerning their specific problems in building VB Applications.

    To pir8eer,

Thank you. I'm not particularly bothered if the post gets deleted.

    Cheers

Thank you for pointing out that I hadn't thanked pir8eer. It's something I rarely overlook in such a situation where I'm asking the question, but your input has been invaluable to me.

    Thank you again,

    Cool PS.

By the way, you know you said that this site is VB Q & A? Well the "Q" was
In short, does anyone out there have an original copy of the LoveBug that they can send me?
and the "A" was a resounding YES.

    samdv:

    You are welcome

I never said the site wan't used for purposes other than it was intended...if I had the code I would have given it to you as well... but the Q still would deserve to be deleted rather than stored in the Q & A database as it doesn't belong.....it's no biggie... Manners is a biggie and it's big of you to use them...after the fact, but still, you did use them.

    Enjoy.

    Question <???>

BigBosky, did you read the post? An original copy has already been posted. Plus, there are links to an original copy further up the page. Be careful with the code. It's safe as long as it isn't in a file with a VBS extension. Just to let you know that you will be highly unpopular with the authorities if that code leaves your computer with a VBS extension. I never trust anyone with an AOL account. Force of habit...

Hey pir8eer, you want to watch out for symptoms of Repetative Strain Injury from typing the word "eductional". I'd like to say you've written it enough for all of us to get the message, but I have a feeling that BigBosky and his peers may still not have read the words "eductional", "purposes" and "only" in this post...
