    Job skills

When I do a search for IT jobs, Crystal Reports comes up a lot.
    As does requests for SQL.
If I was to make an effort to learn one or the other to get a job, which is the most interesting in your opinion?

i would recommend that you learn SQL first, that way you'll probably have a much better understanding of what you're actually doing in Crystal (ie. joining tables, grouping records, etc.). also, most jobs that require you to create Crystal reports will probably want you to know SQL as well.

When I do a search for IT jobs...
Depends on the job. The IT departments at our facilites don't know much about either Sql or Crystal. The only thing they do is network stuff and load boxes. I think the sql and crystal stuff is more of a app developer job.

crystal is the most commonly used reporting tool for the most part.. especially with big companies.. we use it here...

Learning it will defenitly make you more valuable in the job market...

but like they said learn SQL first.. because while you don't HAVE to know it to run a report off of a database... it really helps when you get to more advanced reporting

My main job function is Crystal reporting, and with downsizing, layoff, whatever, I have been looking around at what's out there. I would suggest SQL first, simply because most companies consider Crystal to be a "Icing on the Cake" skill, not what they want you to do primarily. Hence why I am trying to learn VB and improve my SQL skills now!
