    legal?

    is it legal to distribute copies of linux distributions liks redhat, mandrake, etc. ?

    Yep, as long as it's the same thing that's downloadable.

    I don't think SuSE is downloadable so keep an eye out for that. Well, at least it wasn't about a year ago when I tried it, I got a demo. It was pretty nice actually but I couldn't change any settings.

    SuSE's my favourite distrobution. The only difference between it and others is that it forces you to do an FTP install (create a boot floppy, insert your network/modem info, and specify the ftp site, and it downloads everything you want it to, in the way of packages). Also it has a CD that you can boot from (maybe this is what you suggested Justin?) that will not install anything but contains a static image of the distrobution that you can tinker with.

    Yeah SuSe isn't too bad, I still killed it on my laptop though

    If you want a good fully downloadable OS, go Mandrake 9.0, they've really 'reformed' since 8.2, which sucked buckets.

    You can redistribute it as long as that particular distro only contains GPL software.

    EG: The server versions of RedHat contain commercial software...you can't simply copy that around. Not legally at least.
