Our much loved government has decided on the following course of action.
1. Passed legislation to allow for troops to break up protests and union stoppages.
2. Refused to ratified the latest UN accords.
3. Refuse to allow UN inspectors into Oz, gee just like Iraq.
4. Are caught lying and misleading the public.
5. Have totally stuffed up the Republican movement.
So contact your Senator, Member of Parliment, or whatever and demand your goverments condem the actions of John Howards gestapo inspired thugs.
P.S Just seen pictures of the Police baton charging demonstrators outside the World Trade Forum.....its gold gold gold to Australia for destroying individual freedom and rights to protest.....at least until the South Korea team put in there performance over the summer.

I was down at the Sheraton Towers at Southgate this morning for a 'breakfast seminar' (who thinks we want to be lectured at over breakfast anyway?). If you want to rob some houses, today is the day. THere were about 80 police around the Sheraton, and that's not actually part of the Crown complex. I thought about going down the Clarendon Street to have a look-see, but never got around to it.

Why not stop looking at the world for the answers and start looking at Australia itself.
The only reason we are in this STUPID situation is because a greater percentage of our 18 million population voted the bastard into government!!!!!
We are not going to get anywhere... and I mean Liberal, Labour, National, Greens, Democratic or even Republican as long as the masses keep sticking their heads in the sand and vote what their fathers brainwashed them to vote.
If we are oging to get anywhere we need to educate the 18 million people here (and the 15 million that actually vote on the matter) to start understanding that if we all refused to vote until they cleaned their act up nothing will change!!!!

At least we have compulsory voting. We are such an apathetic nation that the majority probably wouldn't bother turning up to vote.

Some good points Gen-X but.......
....the Coalition are doing damage to Oz's reputation at the moment, with their insane policy of not backing the UN because the UN had the audacity to critcism them on their racial policies.
I agree with you however, none of the major parties bother with their underlinning principles and what the actual party is meant to represent.
Have you noticed the news media is no longer attacking John Howard for lying.
What l have notice is that even though you expect politicians to lie, these lot are telling dumb lies that are obvious deceptions.
Hopefully the electorate will see them for what they are in the coming fed election.

I can't accept any form of government where those who did not make it into power are called the "opposition" and their sole purpose in life is to just nay-say everything the government who DID win are doing....
Even if that means saying something their own party was in favour of is now bad simply because the other side are doing it.
Lib: "We are going to have a GST" - Lose the Election
Lab: "We will NEVER have a GST" - Won the Election
Lib: "A GST is the wrong way to go" - Now they are out
Lab: "We are going to have a GST" - Now they are in
They should be held accountable for the blank faced lies they tell but the Australian public are so unbelievably stupid they would vote for anyone as long has he had hair growing in some strange place, had a sirname that came from some animal (preferably a bird) and could be easily derided on comedy shows.
I would say they get what they deserve but unfortunately the rest of us have to suffer becuase the majority don't know their heads from their a**holes.

There are a whole heap of things going on here...
One of the things is to do with what they called "The Lost Generation".
In the early 1900's Indigenous children were taken from their families and placed into the foster care of white families. A terrible tragedy most definately.
The Aboriginals have been up in arms about it demending that our government say "sorry" for this happening althought the money hungry want compensation as well.
So the government looked into it (big enquiry costing the taxpayer hundreds of thousands of dollars) and discovered that it was about 10,000 children that had been displaced like this and not the entire indigenous population. So they made a statement saying "It was not the entire population but only about 10,000" to which the media wonderfully turned into "GOVERNMENT DENIES LOST GENERATION EVER OCCURRED".
Of course this inflamed things further. Everyone complained and someone took it to the United Nations under human rights. Our Prime Minister said that he felt very bad that this had occured, and that it was indeed a tragedy but as he was not responsible nor was he even alive at that time it was not his place to say "sorry".
Now the United Nations step in and start saying how bad it was and that our government should do this and that and that to make things better and of course our government isn't listening to them.
The big problem is that the sins of the father shouldn't be expected to be paid by the son.... So as much as we agree in how tragic it is and we are sorry it happened we should not be asked to appologise for something that had nothing to do with us.... There are so many other human attrocities going on in the world for the UN to focus on something that happened a long time ago and make a country that is by international standards a thousand times more civil and understanding of human rights than say Saddam Hussen ever will be that its just a big media circus for them.
Well thats my take on it anyway.... I am sure there is more juicy stuff that has happened since I last bothered to pay attention to them constantly complaining about how hard done by they are.
(To put this into perspective, the Aboriginal population of Australia get more benefits and more hand outs than any other ethnic group there are and they spend MOST of that money "in general" on getting drunk and doing nothing).

I find it a bit amusing that this is the exact same stereotype as the Native American.

Yeah you have to love the GST.
- Buy Milk... NO GST
- Buy Flavoured Milk... GST because someone provided a service
- Buy Corn... NO GST
- Buy Popping Corn... GST because someone provided a service
Buggered if I can work out how they managed to get the corn off the cob or the milk out of the cow without providing a service in doing so!!!!
Either they make the WHOLE lot with or without GST... My preference would be GST on everything and provide enough compensation to each family to the value of what that family would require to feed themselves "adequately". That way if some people want to buy the best they pay for it but Mr Poor and Underprivileged can still manage to feed himself well all year round without any extra costs.
The people that complain the most are those who don't spend their money where they SHOULD but instead spend it on alcohol or cigarettes then expect the government to fork out more so they can eat. We should stop rewarding stupidity.
