Use the "character map" to find out the character code for "sqaure root" in your system.
"Character Map" is a utility provide by windows, and you can find it in Start->Programs->Accessories->System Tools

There isn't one on Windows, I didn't think. There might be one on NT if you use a Unicode font, otherwise you'd need Symbol (or something) to get it.

In addition to using the correct character code, the current font must have the symbol.
I have Windows 98SE and the Character Map was included. I am almost certain that it was included with Windows 95. Look for
C:\Windows\CHARMAP.EXE
I find it so handy that I have a Shortcut to it on my Task Bar. It is a handy tool for inserting special characters into MS Word & Corel WordPerfect Documents. I do not know what other applications allow its use. I could not use it with some of my other applications.
