where to go from here
Currently my organization is looking to upgrade from windows NT to xp. Can you use com+ with windows xp? or would it just be better to bite the bullet and go to .net?

Yes you can use it in xp. If you goto ...
1) start menu > run & type "MMC"
2) console menu > "add/remove snap-in"
3) hit the add button & choose "component services"
you have your standard com+ options screen you got with the windows NT option pack (Microsoft Transaction Server). It's updated a bit, but the principal stays the same - you can work with com+ dll's the way you would with NT.
