I'd be interested in helping out, given more details and information. i.e. would this just be another kazaa or better or different somehow?

something to think about
im not trying to discourage you, but think carefully about this. it must be stable, provide online features, somehow have a central server (kazaa does and its p2p). it costs money and takes alot of time. so if u have alot of time and money (or wish to spoil it by putting ads in it) then i bid you good luck. if u don't, i suggest u ditch the idea.

You see Kazaa has a banner ad, and pop ups. This will not have them.
Also I plan on creating a server-less design. Well, you could think of it as Server-less, but actually every computer running the app will be acting as a server. I haven't really been able to plan out how to search for files.
When one computer connects to another, the one passes on a list of other computers that are online. When a search is performed the search request gets relayed from one computer to another and matches to the request are comunicated to the computer that requested them, and after so long the request will time out. Maybe have how long before it times out be stored in setting so that the user can change it.

Actually the help that I'm looking for is programming. I can do that myself. I need help on thinking of a name and creating a logo.

I haven't started coding the program yet. It took me a few months to plan out how I'm going to implement everything.
I need help with deciding a name for it? If someone could help me out with that it would be appreciated.
I also need some help on the graphics/pictures? If you want to help out with the pictures to be used in the program, I'll give you credit in the program, and on the web site that I will create.
I would also appreciate any suggestions on features to add.

I forgot to mention that when this program is finished it will be free to use and free to download. It will also have no banner ads or popup windows.

Hi,
I am creating a new filesharing client called Syfonic Music Community.
This client will be much larger that Napster, Kazaa etc.
It also is going to be written in the Visual Basic 6 language.
I am looking for Visual Basic programmers to help me with this client, so if you are in any way interested in helping me with this client please mailto [email protected]

Ok, since Chase is an idiot, and can't reply to you if you say you have interest in helping him, I am just going to make my app. I was just going to steel code from him anyway... I know that doesn't sound good but... does it matter?
Well, since no one wants to help me, I will just have to do it all by myself, and I'll be the only one getting credit for it when its out and is the ****!!

hi Stickman373!
I can pretty much to the programming myself. But I need ideas on the User Interface. Could you maybe design some prototypes of an interface either in VB or by drawing pictures? I'll give you credit in the final app. And I would prefer that you emailed them to me.
Thanks Much!

I forgot, I would also like some suggestions for features to be added. Any feature idea related to Chat and/or Filesharing would appreciated.

I always wanted to make one but i got soo many other programs going on and no time for that. I always wanted good advanced search options. and some other things:
- Option for saving differnt file types downloaded in differnt folders.
- Don't tell the other persons connection like 56K, cable, dsl, tell what there speed really is in k/s! (Morpheus does this now)
- Don't have built in file players that's gay.
- Don't download to a temp first like kazaa.
- Be able to search folders like Dirrect connect
- Be able to sort all of the columns in the transfers.
- Make it simple to cancel and clear transfers. (kazaa is a pain in the ass) and keep the stop/cancel buttons away from the clear compleated button so u don't axidently hit the wrong one.
- I'd rather use my own AIM name and program I already have to talk to people.
- Don't keep a huge list of every single file loaded to slow the program down (Like Aimster/Madster) Instead try to load the folders (like Dirrect connect)
Well that's some of what i think about p2p programs now days and maybe some ideas...

Limewire is a completely open source gnutella app. You could save a lot of time by using some of its source code . If you write a gnutella app. there are already thousands of people on the network.

a piece of advice

do u understand how slow this will be? over half the world net users are on dial up, so just imagine the bandwidth bottlenecks that would occur considering that a minimum of 1000 people search at any point in time. thats why kazaa and napster decided servers are the way to go. if u choose servers, u can count on putting pop ups in ur program, which defeats the whole purpose. and unless u own a couple of T1 or T3 connected servers, it will run like a turtle. my advice quit now before u get dissappointed and spend too much time on a doomed project.
Get Quoted:
"If Shane Warne had given his mobile phone to Russell Crowe, neither of them would be in trouble."
"She has more troubles than a centipede with its legs crossed."
"For every action, there is an equal and opposite Government program."

Just my response to a few of these:

What if I want to preview what I'm downloading? Say I don't know the name of a song I want, so I'm going to try a few. I don't want to wait for it to download all the way (if I have a slow connection) just to find out it's the wrong song.
Don't download to a temp first like kazaa.
Then that pretty much ruins the ability to have a resume feature. If I'm downloading a big pirated file, I may want to do it in installments. Or if the person I'm downloading from has a small connection. Or possibly I might decided I want to finish it later. Not saving a temp file kills this ability.

well, if its music, like a mp3, you almost always can open an mp3 while its downloading and play it. But if you want to preview a movie, I think it should be done however Dirrect connect does it.

Just save the file to the file that it is. You should know if its not compleat. (if you don't, you check the file size or the legnth of song or movie) The program should see that the file already exists if you try to d/l it again, and it should give you the option to resume if u want. (I think AIM does it like that)

Why go through the hassle of opening another program and opening all the files I attempt to download when I can just hit "play" in the software I'm using to download it?

Okay. I didn't think of that.

As with the naming... isn't it abit early to be focusing on that?? Surely it would be better to get a basic thing running, before it even gets the name of "File Sender Thing"

I should of replayed a long time ago...
You should only have to hit an open button on the p2p program to have your song open in an external process (like Winamp) and auto-starts.
Winamp is a program solely designed to play music.
I perfur winamp at least.
By using internal music player, your making that program process more. Resulting in slowing the program down. And then that consequently slows your computer down at the same time.
Two seperate processes can function more quickly then two actions in a single process.
