Well - Add a resolve button
This may have been addressed before, but if user could just click a button that says "Resolved" and have it add the word "Resolved" to the original subject would be a nice extra...

That'd be a feature change, and would require some coding, or for a hack to be installed, which to be honest, I can't really see happening
Though I do agree that there should be something like that.
I'll look into it for you.

I second James proposal with all my heart. It would make life much easier if the original author of a thread is given a Resolve Button, in his subsequent posts of the same threads.

Check vBulletin.org to see if there's a Hack already available. If there isn't, there's 0 to no chance that it'll happen
All contents of the above post that aren't somebody elses are mine, not the property of some media corporation.

That sucks. We got cute littel avatars, but somthing as simple as a resolved button, which would really help users in the long run, can't be implemented?

Resolved lets others user know that there probelms were indeed *resolved*. What thios does is allow a user who is searching for this topic at a later time to search fro topics related to that subject. Whn they see *resolved*, they will more than likely so they're probelm faster...
Get it?

Not a very good idea. What if the thread starter want to reverse it?
I had recently saw 1 poster changed his title from
[Resolved] My problem
to
[Partially Resolved] My problem
After he found out that he still had a minor glitch with the solution.
The current method, IMO is still the best.

Well, I suppose in theory, all the Resolved button would do would be to edit the thread title, not add anything extra. All it would take would be the owner of the thread to change the title again.

And from what I have seen, a thread has a far lesser possibility of becoming Resolved to UnResolved.

I agree. Most people, once it is resolved, it's a done deal.

This couldn't be hard to implement. It's just a new field to the topic table, saying it status among 3: unsolved, solved, not applicable
Dunno, maybe more. :P
Anyway, good idea.
A better idea would be someone grouping all those good ideas around here and make a petition...
Someone... Who could it be?

But does "Resolved" mean the thread is not still open to further discussion?

Get these: Mozilla Opera OpenBSD
I have books for sale: "MCSD in a Nutshell" and "VB Distributed Exam Cram" - PM me for details. Will also trade for a decent ATX Pentium 2 MB/CPU/RAM combo.

Not necessarily, What it means is that the original question has been answered to the satisfaction of the thread starter.

So what if the thread starter thinks the question is resolved, but there are caveats with the "solution" that need to be pointed out?

You can obviously add to the thread later. No blocking of posts in the thread is taking place here. Just a simple word "Resolved" added to the title of the thread.

Good point. I guess they would have to depend on the emailing function then.

Well, I guess my issue is that people or going to skip over the "resolved" threads because they are "resolved", even if the original poster thinks his question is resolved on the first solution that works, whether or not its the best solution. Therefore denying the "learning experience" or something like that.

Yes, that can be the case, but if you do a search on a very popular topic, the results run into several pages, with many of them not having the answers. This makes things very dificult.

My point exactly. With resolved threads, at least you have a better chance of getting a resolution than just endless drone that never amounts to anything...
