when you connect a homemade client and homemade server to each other how can you find the netmask that the person connected to the server has...i know how to find the ip but i want to know the netmask because if i want my program to ban someone and its a dialup connecting to the server the ip will change but the netmask will be the same.

You can't identify clients based on their subnet mask; anyone with a class C (almost everyone) is 255.255.255.0 There is no really good way to keep a particualr person out short of having them login. Banning IPs is only useful for preventing connections from certain providers/networks.
At least I think that's what you were asking...
