Hello i was wondering when windows 2000 comes out is there going to be an effect on how programs are made with Visual basics or VC++ Like can visual basic make window 2000 applications or Do i have to learn everything all over again so that you can make programs with that work with windows 2000 or is there no change at all? thanks for your time!

No a typical program written in VB works just fine in Win2000. Just remember, Win2000 is much like NT so security is at a max. If your program works in NT, it will work most likely in 2000. Stuff like accessing ports directly in WinNT is forbidden and you must create holes to do this. Normal stuff works just fine. With 2000 comes more API functions, etc that should make programming easier.

    No Problemo!

BTW, I've been using Win2000 for about 2 months now and I highly recommend it to everyone. It's very customizable and to be honest, I haven't had one single Illegal Operation which is supprising. This will probably be the first and only time I give microsoft a shoutout

Are you using one of the Beta versions? I don't think the final has been released yet. Or have I been living in the closet too long?

Microsoft has released a Windows2000 RC2 (they are late with Release Candidate 3).

You bet there's a difference in Win2000 APIs, the AnimateWindow API will decide to work! (SOME people know what I am talking about )

My friend had a beta of Windows 2000, and he turned on his computer one bright afternoon to find out that his HD no longer existed (emotionally) and that all of his files have been deleted. Accident??? It was probably some virus or something, but you never know... Does Bill know something we don't?

Actually, RC2 is the "gold copy". RC2 will be the one that is sold in stores. RC3 has been released to us beta testers, but that version will not be marketed. The official release date was just announced as February 17th.

    Check www.betaos.com

Oops my bad I just realized I was talking about RC2 and not RC3. RC3 however will be the gold copy

    Sorry for my typical ignorance!

The last Win 2000 I messed with (RC1 I think), decided it didn't want to work after I installed the SoundBlaster Live drivers. Windows Protection Errors, got to love them!! I just hope this Win2000 is more stable than Win98. Heck I'm even considering going back to Win95. I had less trouble with it.

personally, i love win2k. it doesnt crash as much as most, and is lots better on the net. i think u need to be on a network 2 get the most out of it, but its good enough! It does take up an awful lot of memory though, and sum vis bas commands wont work, things like making the pc think a screensavers running, and finding out what user is logged on.

What are you using to make the computer think a Screen Saver is running? SystemParametersInfo, with SPI_SCREENSAVERRUNNING? It was never meant to be used in the first place, so don't be surprised.

If you're bored, why don't you go to a game site like www.freearcade.com? That might get rid of some of it. But if we continue this train of thought, this will probably be moved to chit chat.
