[RESOLVED] Getting my Broadband to Work in Linux

I just installed Linux, but it won't recognise my Motorola SB4200 cable modem. I looked on their site and I couldn't see any drivers for it. Does anyone know how I can get it to work?

I remember reading recently that the best places for Linux drivers (for any devices) are at linux sites, as people have to write them (the companies don't as a rule ). Luckily the Linux way is to give anything you have written to anyone who wants/needs it

Thanks, but I just searched on their site and there were no motorola drivers. I did check on the motorola site already but found only windows drivers (as you say: ) Maybe I can use another generic driver or something? I tried a couple of the ones on the list in the wizzard, but they didn't work.

    Don't expect much.

If it was ethernet you could do it.

It could be be the USB drivers that are the problem. Especially if its USB 2 since I believe only fairly recent Linux distros have USB2 support.

Well it's only USB 1, and seeing as I have Mandrake 9 which only came out a few days ago I assume it's not that. Anyone prepared to write me some drivers?

Don't worry I got it working (whoo I'm talking from Linux ). I just choose a USB modem from the list and it worked.

    Cool

Didn't know anything other than the SpeedTouch was supported.

Will have to keep that in mind for the future

The Alcatel SpeedTouch USB aDSL modem...seems to be the standard one that people like BT give out for their "home" packages.

Oh right. I have cable (with telewest/blue yonder) and that's different to ADSL isn't it?

Yeah, it doesn't use your normal phone line.

But either way, I didn't know there was support for any devices like that. Useful to know...
