    Red face .NET Hangs

    Hello

Everytime I run an app in VB.NET it creates the .exe but it hangs, when I look in the task manager the app is running but the form is not visible. This even happens with 'Hello World'.

As a side note the first time it hung, from then on I can no longer get the folder properties for any of the folders in explorer. This might just be a coincidence, but it is weird.

I had this problem before and I reinstalled, one day later it happens again. I don't want to reinstall, there must be something I can do, check, set.

I have to build then alt+tab over to the bin folder and run the app from there inorder to see the app.

    Any thoughts

Yes, formatting worked the other two times but I don't want to keep do this. That is why I was wondering if anybody could think of a way to fix this!

No, Xp is fine then I install VS.NET and it is still okay. Then I guess I did something and now it is punched. I only wish I knew what I did to cause it. I also noitced the the some of the enviornment settings are not being saved. It sounds like I need to reinstall, but I shouldn't have to do this everytime.

I found out that I can 'Start Without Debugging' to run the program and it runs the app, then when I exit the app VS.NET is okay.

But I still can't run it in debug mode, has anybody seen this before or could give me a start point to look?

We had the exact same thing happen at work, when compiling it would hang for upto 2mins. Basically we discovered it was XP and .net problem so we all moved back to win 2k and have no problems now. We have reported the problem to microsoft about 6 months ago and haven't heard a thing.

Hmm. I think I have the same problem. Is it like if you push the 'run' button, it compiles, but doesn't show anything?

Just hit 'stop' then 'run' again. Or hit 'step in' or 'restart' so it will break on the first line of code. The VS.NET IDE still seems a little buggy, but this is a small problem. Soon enough, you'll get your app running again in it.

When I start to debug, VB.NET hangs and will stay that way as lnog as the electricity is flowing in its vanes. But when I restart, it seems to be okay for awhile then the folder properties go.

I only have XP there is no cash in my budge for 2000.

I wonder when there will be a SP1 for VS.NET?

    I havn't applied XP SP1 yet.

Strange. I've used Win2k before, and I've upgraded it to WinXP. Now, my system is faster, more stable, and WinXP seems smaller too (Saved 2+ GB after upgrading to it).

What software do you have running in background? There is a service pack for the framework already (Or are you running the beta version?)
