    Win2000 installation errors!!!

    Hi,

For several times I've tried to install Win2k on my machine. Everytime it just starts copying files etc. Then it continues with detecting mouse and keyboard settings etc. After that is done, the installation crashes time after time. It says: "Registry Error. To prevent further damage ...blah blah...." Every time!
Not only is this with Win2k, it is also on Win ME and Win XP.
It tried installing all these OSes on clean, formatted machine, and also with upgrade option. None of it works!!!!
    Has anyone encountered this before?

Oh, my OS is Win98 SE.

No, i've had it with multiple cd's. I've had Win2k Server install. from school, official Win2k update CD, normal Win2k cd, official Win ME cd etc. I've tried it with all kinds of settings disabled in BIOS, nothing worked.
So I guess something in my machine is screwed up, just can't think of anything that could cause this. Cause Win98 setup is working just fine.

Dont know if this will help, but....

There are some old dos tricks that you can use that will wipe things out that arn't usually wiped out by normal formatting.

    one is the format /mbr

is supposed to wipe out the master boot record, do that a few times from the command prompt and see what happens.

there is also a switch you can set so it wipes out the old registry, but I'm not sure what it is.

It could just be his BIOs.

Which would be the result of a poor quality motherboard.
