Setting up a Mac & PC network
I am needing to set up a mini network between a mac and a pc.. Just for the transfer of about 3 Gigs worth of files. I believe that I can use the network hub that I have set up but I need to set up the mac to be able to see the comps and I need to be able to set up the PC's to see the mac. The PC is running WinXP and the mac is running MacOS 8.5.1. If anyone knows what I need to do please could they reply asap so that I can get this done Thanks for all your help in advance.

For a 2 computer network, a hub is not needed.
You need a Cat 5 Crossover Cable. (Right??)
You basically plug one end in the mac, and another in the pc.
I don't know much about Macs, soo, do a search for a tutorial on this topci, as you may not get a reply for a while.. maybe..

Cheers muchly for your help I will try the cross over cable.. I'm pretty sure that will work.. But I have a harder question ... I need to set up internet sharing (and file sharing) on 3 - 4 PC's and 1 Mac.. We have Print sharing set up but we can't see the other computers on the network (when looking on the PC). 1 PC is running Win XP while the others are running 98 and the mac is running OS 8.5.1

Well, as I said I can't help you with the Macs, but with Windows,
Make sure you have Internet Connection Sharing(ICS) Installed on the Windows, and the similar thing on the Mac, and then on the computer with the direct connection to the internet, u you to select the Method of connecting, and allow the users on the Lan to access it.
(Look in Internet Options - Connections)
And I'm guessing your cables are right yeah?
Can you ping each of the comps?
