    I would point out that it's "you're" not "your", but you'd be right - that WOULD be annoying.

    Actually I'm 16. And I did imply at the top of the cubic functions thread that if you did genuinely want a bit of advice or help, then that was fine by me. The long overdue explanation of "Don't insult me by asking me to prove it." is because people on this forum often take something obvious and say "ooh well u got it right but u didnt prove it so piss off", and that kind of thing pisses me off. No hard feelings or anything.

    You can learn logs in 9th grade in california...If you are good enough. I learned them last year, in tenth.
    Now returning to the world of VB. Please make sure your seatbelts are securely fastened and all trays are in their upright and locked position.

    yr 10...

    Yeah, even in AUS, we also learn logs in yr 10, though not really anything except base 10 and e. However, not even Yr 12 do it that much, just graphing it.

    N = x + y + z
    Where:
    x = log2002 112
    y = log2002 132
    z = log2002 142

    I'm not sure if i'm right, but his means:
    2002x = 121
    2002y = 169
    2002z = 196

    =>2002x *2002y *2002z = 4008004
    => 2002(x+y+z) = 20022
    => x + y + z = 2, N = 2 (as N = x + y + z)

    TADA!!!! (From a Year 10)
    BTW, if f(x) = log2002 xk
    then N = k ('cos 11 * 13 * 14 = 2002)

    Also, what were Qs 1-13??? This wasn't from a 2002 Olympiad or anything was it??

    I have no idea which grades relate to which ages, but I was first actually taught logarithms in class when I was 15. The way I did it:

    N = log2002121 + log2002169 + log2002196
    N = (log121/log2002) + (log169/log2002) + (log196/log2002)
    N = 0.6308... + 0.6748... + 0.6943... = 2

    Conversion...

    Yeah, over here year 10 roughly = 15 yo, (though there are some old 16s and young 14s, as you can probably guess)
    Just wondering, how did you figure out:
    (log121/log2002) + (log169/log2002) + (log196/log2002)
    = 2
    without a calculator??

    Or, are calculators allowed. (if so, the this question would definitely be easy :P )

    Oh, and AMC = American Maths Competition??, 'cos over here AMC = Australian Maths Competition, and is sort of easy (Only time a problem), whereas the hardes comp here is the AMO (Australian Maths Olymiad)
