Question about installing windows 2000 professional
Is it possible to install 2000 over 98 SE without having to reformat your hard drive? If it is, will programs and other things files still be in working order and in the same places?????

Win2k Setup has an update option. This way it doesnt format your HD, nor changes software or partition.

yup its possible to install windows2k with 98SE, in fact thats how we do dual boot setups, we install windows9x first then install windows 2k. you will then have the option of choosing which OS runs at bootup, 2000 will be obviously labeled and the second option (Microsoft Windows) will be your previous operating system (in your case 98). if after 30 seconds you havent chosen a system the computer will default to 2000. and continue booting... (you can change this however by altering the boot.ini file in the root of your boot drive (typically C).
