Since there are loadz of posts on music, what's everyone's favouite lyric to a song?

"bring down the government, they don't they don't speak for us.." (Radiohead, no suprises)

    or

"hunting girls to me is just like a sport" (something like that, have not heard this one for a while)
    (Lou Bega, Mambo Number 5)

Any one have any better lyrics?

From one of my favorite songs (anyone know which song ):
    Sharp and open
    Leave me alone
    And sleeping less every night
As the days become heavier and weighted
    Waiting
    In the cold light
    A noise
A scream tears my clothes as the figurines tighten
    With spiders inside them
And dust on the lips of a vision of hell
I laughed in the mirror for the first time in a year

    From "American Pie":
    Code:
'Cause the players tried to take the field,
The marching band refused to yield.
Do you recall what was revealed the day the music died?
    And from "My Fault":
    Code:
    Dave, pull up your pants!
    We need an ambulance.
There's a girl upstairs talking to plants
I refuse to tie my hands behind my back and hear somebody say "Bend Over, Boy, Because You Have It Coming To You".

Eminem - "My Fault" is one of his better ones from a POV of humour value

Two quotes from the manic street preachers - Design for life

"I wish I had a bottle, right here in my dirty face. to wear the scars. to show where I came."

    And

"We Don't talk about love, we just want to get drunk."

It is a great song and they are a good band to see live. But the best band that I have seen is pulp. I saw them back at V96 and they were awsome. I like the lyrics for mostly every song but there is one song that sticks in my mind lot's becuase it was the way I used to be.

From sorted for E's and whizz

every one asks you name, they say were all the same, and now it's, nice one ,geezer that's as far as the conversation went.

I wish I could fly, right up to the sky, but I can't - Orvil

(Ian suddenly rushes out of the office. Nicks a fast car and goes to the nearest hospital and kidnap'sa brain surgeon. He perfoms an operation and remove's all vital part's. Ian then get's a plain to the amazon and lives the rest of his life eating grub's, safe in the knowledge that he won't hear that song ever again and won't have to show his face again after quoting that)

Hmmm, anyone out there heard Roxettes last song, do you think they pinched the lyrics from poor Orville?

And you see a girl's brown body dancing through the turquoise,
And her footprints make you follow where the sky loves the sea.
And when your fingers find her, she drowns you in her body,
Carving deep blue ripples in the tissues of your mind.

(Ian comes back from the amazon, realising that grub's don't really taste that nice. Kidnap's the surgeon to put his brain back in and goes back to work and no-one notices he's been gone as he doesn't do any work any way)

Ohhh so many decent lines! Plenty of material to work with on Nevermind, and a fair few decent Green Day ones too (as demonstrated by Jamagei )

A couple more memorable ones (for me at least) -

"I felt the hate rise up in me
Kneel down and clear the stone of leaves
I wander out where you can't see
Inside my shell I wait and Bleed"

One for any of you who've ever had to serve time on a support desk :

"Insane - am I the only mutha*****er with a brain?
I'm hearing voices but all they do is complain
How many times have you wanted to kill
Everything and everyone - say you'll do it but never will"

Just at the moment, this kinda thing's in my head:

"There's all the pain in the way she talks
All the pain in the way she walks
All the pain in her wave goodbye
All the pain in the way she smiles"

    And

"I'm with everyone and yet not
Got to get away from here
I miss the one that I love a lot
I miss the one that I love a lot"

Guess what's on my mind recently Still, maybe some decent music will cheer me up. I feel inspired! *Runs to CD player*
    Harry.

Alex: It's sad to say but since Clapton gave up the dope (mid 70s) his music lacked the "fire" that his earlier stuff did. Just to contradict myself, I was quite impressed by his recent acoustic album.

Layla - classic song (especially the 7min one). One of the best songs I've ever heard.

    Here are a couple more.

Everybody knows that the dice are loaded
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed
Everybody knows the war is over
Everybody knows the good guys lost
Everybody knows the fight was fixed
The poor stay poor the rich get rich
    Thats how it goes
    And everybody knows

    - Leonard Cohen
    Born under a bad sign
I've been down since i began to crawl
If it wasn't for bad luck
I wouldn't have no luck at all

    - Eric Clapton
If you want a good Calpton album, but the "Cream of Eric Clapton". In my opinion everyone should be forced to own this album. It has all the clasics on it.

    Layla
    Cocaine
    White Room
    Wonderful Tonight

    etc ...

    Talking How about

    "Kill the Fat Controller
And Pray to a New God."

    - Headless Chickens, debut album

    "Where just two lost souls
    Swimming in a Fish Bowl
    Year after Year"

    - Pink Floyd "Wish you were here"

John probably doesn't have room on this server to store the entire lyric work of David Bowie, so will just indicate that l quote everything...with special emphasis on

    "I've been putting out Fire
    With gasoline."

    - David Bowie, Title track to Cat people.

    And my all time favourite

    "Woke up this morning
    My Dog had Died
    Some one disliked him
    Shot him in the head"

Don't know, it was playing at the pub last night

    Some nice choices there Jethro,

I was waiting for that Ian! Think we had a chit chat post on the youngest member (think it was 14 some thing like that - you are still older, I just reckoned that many of the people on this site had been programming for 30 years).

    Any others?
