Ok anyone want to describe the in's and out's of setting up a Virtual Private Network?
From what i need to security etc.

Any links etc would be nice!

A VPN is fairly easy to set up if you use WIN2K.

Goto your Network/Dial-up Connections. Make a new connection, on one side you listen, on the other you connect to the VPN. You'll have to assign IP address and protocols you want to use over the VPN. It's all easy though. You should be able to figure it out.

The router has the ip address's i allow which port through 47?

Microsoft's solution is weak.

There are plenty of 3rd party. What kind of budget are you working with?

Yeah thaths what i thought. Protecting what you want to protect on the same machine is silly!

Budget not much!
Trying to convince them that this will save them money is like drawing blood from a stone!

But i was thinking for each offices, we have 5, i'd set up a 5xp Netwear Firewall(hardware). And for remote mobile clients i'd use netwears software client. That came up towards $5000!

Any other solutions?

I've had great luck with Shiva. Kind of pricey $$$$
The performance is quite good.
Some of the lower priced solutions are s.....l......o.....w

Shiva is pretty good. I've worked with the netgear and netsoft. Both of those were pretty stable and had no major performance problems. Shiva was by far the best I've played with though.

It would eliminate the need for a firewall as most trojans work on incoming connections.

Shiva i'll take a peek thanks suidae! Seems these directors dont sound to interested in expanding and lowering costs!

NAT doesnt eliminate a need for a firewall! It meerly is a basic form of one. Well in a medium to big network. Small networks will do fine with a Router with NAT.
And anyway you would need to allow that port through to the server anyway so it's rather pointless.
