CD Burning Software
I've got Nero at the moment, but it's baggo and won't let me burn certain things. I've also got Roxio sound forge, and that lets me burn the files that Nero won't. The trouble is that Roxio seems even worse for being able to burn stuff, and it's really annoying having to use more than one program. So I was wondering which is the best cd burning software to use, and is there a program that will burn anything?

make sure you have all the latest patches for the programs - Nero have updates every few weeks, and can handle much more all the time

I use Nero to burn software, but it's quite slow burning music. For that I use MP3 Burner. But as Si_the_Geek said, if you have the latest updates etc. then Nero works fine. (almost always)

Pix: Exactly what went wrong when you used Nero?
I have Nero and just used it for the first time yesterday. It worked fine, and seemed very user friendly. I mislaid the manual, but had no problem just hacking my way to the successful burn.
If there are problems, I would like to know in advance what to expect.
I read somewhere that direct CD to CD-RW copying can cause problems. I copied the CD to a partition on a Hard Disk and burned from there. Perhaps this is why I had no problems.

Nero sometimes cause problems when you're trying to copy a CD directly (source CD in one CD drive and destination CD is another CD-Writer drive). Sometimes it says "Buffer underrun" and stops burning. If your destination CD is CD-R then it becomes unusable for good. However, if it happens to be a CD-RW, you can reformat it and burn it again.
PS: I used Nero on Windows 98 SE. Encountered the above problem several times. Even if simulation works perfectly, it may create problem while actually burning. However, if you copy the contend from hard disk, I didn't notice any problem.

Do you have both your CD drive and your CD-RW drive on the same IDE channel? If you do and your burner doesn't have some sort of buffer underrun protection then you probably should either put them on separate channels or always make it create an image first and burn from there. I have both drives on one channel but since my burner has buffer underrun prevention I don't have any problems and I use Nero.

It's a bad idea in general to do direct CD to CD copies. Most people these days have at least a 40x CDROM drive (Even if you have an old computer, 32x is at least the standard) so it only takes but a minute or two to pre-copy to your hard drive.
Doesn't matter if the CDROM can keep up, occasionally CDROMs stall, and if your burner doesn't have Burnproof that's a problem.
Pix: Give us some exact error messages, and patch your version of Nero, flash burner to latest firmware (if you know your exact make and model). Nero is generally good software, never was fond of Roxio.

My opinion about Nero has changed a bit:
I have a new burner now (40x writing) and when I use Nero, it isn't any faster in burning a complete CD then it was with my old burner(8x). It still takes about 8 minutes to finish a complete 650 mb cd. Does anyone know a faster burn program?

That's a problem ya got there, as Nero burns in about 3 or 4 mins on my 24x.
What make/model is your burner? Latest firmware? Reinstalled Nero?
There's Easy CD Creator, but that's been proven slower (I read a review in Maximum PC...the Plextor 40x equipped with EZCD was slower than the Liteon 32x equipped with Nero. Once they put Nero on the Plexy it set a new speed record and beat both of the scores.)
Sounds like more of a config problem to me.

I use two CD burning programs.
CloneCD for any duplication purposes, and Nero for anything else.
I rarely encounter problems this way.

Nero messes up on CD duplication I've noticed. Whereas CloneCD has never messed up once.
