    Stupid Question

Ok, I am a VB 6.0/ASP programmer. I would like to start moving toward .Net I think, but can someone tell me what I need? What do I need to buy?

What does that have, VB.Net, ASP.net, C# etc.. What was the thing I saw you could download from Microsoft, the .Net Framework. Do I need that?

I have 4 CDS containing VB.Net, VC++.Net, c#.Net, Jscript.Net, associated support files. There is also a Windows component update CD.

If you just want VB.Net it will probably be a lot less

    Cheers

If you want a good interface but no intellisense you can install the .NET framework (free) and use WebMatrix (free)

So does the framework give you everything you need, compiler wise for all of .Net or just ASP.net? I could potentially find a free IDE for VB.Net and C#.net?

Yes the framework does everything, really you don't need anything if you want to use notepad and commandline compile. But it so happens that there is a good IDE for C#/VB.NET in the works. It keeps getting better and better, I wish I would have known about it before I forked the cash for VS.

Yeah, I just saw that VS is $900+. Looks like VB is going the Java / C++ route. Notepad and comand line.

Does .Net have that registration stuff I have heard about, so that you cannot copy someone elses disks and both use them?

The framework doesn't have anything, but Visual Studio just has a CD KEY nothing fancy like online activation or anything.
