Emergency!!!! I Think My Hard Drive Is Failing!!!
I have a Maxtor 60gig 7200rpm that I got last april from newegg. Its my main drive, with windows and all of my data on it. Just today, i heard a weird sound. Any my computer froze. It sounded like the sound a computer makes when it first is turned on (a click then a high pitched noise got louder and higher) except backwards (click then high pitched noise to low, quieter pitch) then it slowly made its way back up to the loud high pitched noise. And when I say freeze, it actually didn't entirely freeze. When it happened again (I was booting into windows at the time) the little windows progress bar that changes color for startup (im on win2k) was still moving, but the main progress bar that shows your progress in booting up stopped. I'm thinking my hard drive is failing as I have about 1/2 mins of computer before this happens. If I take the drive out, everything works fine.
ANYONE!!!! HELP!!!!!

I have everything backed up to my linux drive. It started working after I shook it for a bit so Ill save everything to my linux drive in case anything goes wrong. I have a lot of time left on my maxtor warranty, so Ill use it til it breaks (or my warranty is about up).

I've had my Maxtor 30GB 7200RPM drive for over 18 months now... it hasn't given me any problems, and it gets bounced around a lot going to LAN parties... well it used to, now that school is out for me, i don't go to many LAN parties.

Maxtors have the lowest industry failure rate for IDE hard drives....to my knowledge at least.
I'm bringing geeky back...
