    Hey there!

My machine dual boots between Windows 2000 and WIndows 98.
The 98 setup has just gone all screwey on me... is reccons it can't find command.com and invites me to show it where it is. I do this and it's not happy. I go back into Win2k and restore 98's command.com off the original cd and it's still not happy.

Now I could always just reinstall 98, that's no prob, but if I do that then Win 98 setup will rewrite the MBR and I'll loose my Win2k and have to reinstall that!!

Anyone know how to do a clean reinstall of Win98 without is messing with the boot record? Anyone got any other ideas?

I only use my 98 for watchin TV cos 3dfx can't get off their backsides and write working tv drivers for my Voodoo3 3500 for Win2k. Otherwise I'd just delete Win98 altogether!!!

I thought the 3500 drivers were out now?

Anyway, make an emergency repair disk in Win2k, then reinstall Win98. Hopefully, it won't rewrite the MBR. If it does, boot off the 2k ERD, and fix it from there.

Cheers! I never even thought of that! I usually only make repair disks after something goes wrong and I need them! Silly, I know...but that's me. That's also the advantage of having more than one PC in the house.

Yeah, they do make TV drivers for the card for Win2k, but everytime I run the TV application i just get an "Unknown Error: 0x80040154" error message! That's happened from the first beta drivers they've done right up to the latest ones. I've tried the most up to date drivers on a brand new installation (nothing else installed/changed and it still doesn't work.

The V3 3000 AGP drivers for 2K worked almost perfectly on my system...so I don't know why the 3500's don't. Although, I had to get rid of 2K because it didn't like my AWE32. And I'm damned if they're going to force me to get rid of it.

    Yes, I do like it.

Ooh! That joke's bad. Real bad! I like the rest of your sig tho.

Mmm...just to back track a bit...the drivers for all the other features on the card work fine...the Glide, Open GL, DVD and normal desktop display stuff all work fine...just the TV application that seems to be duff.

The other thing that annoys me is that I used to have a Miro (Pinnacle Systems) tv card which provided whatever stuff that's needed for other programs to capture from it...premier saw it...avid loved it...there was even twain drivers so me psp could use it too. 3dfx do this? Nah! Before you say it...I can't just put that card in too... it seems to argue over irqs with...yup you guessed it...me 3dfx card. They don't seem to wanna let me change them either.

    Maybe they'll sort it eventually.................. . . . . . . .
