[RESOLVED] AVIs Not Playing More than the First Frame

Recently I've downloaded some videos in AVI format and the don't play anything more than the first frame. I have the DivX 5 codec installed, could it be that I'm missing another one? I don't get any error, and the status bar moves along, but the picture doesn't change. Any ideas?

Thanks for the reply, and I've had that problem myself, but I don't think it's that. At least when it happened to me before it was because of a broken download, but that's not what's happened here. I think maybe I'm missing a codec or something.

Yeah I can. So you think it could be a missing codec?

If you can see the first frame, the codec is installed. However, it may be corrupt. Unintall/reinstall the codec, and if it doesn't resolve it uninstall/reinstall the media player that you're using.

Well I just reinstalled the DivX 5 codec and it still isn't working. I don't think it's the media play because I've tried it in Media Player 6, 7 and the DivX one, which I've just installed. I wonder if it could be the DivX 5 codec, maybe I should try an earlier version.

I uninstalled DivX 5 and put version 4 back on, and it seems to have fixed the problem with most of the files. Still a couple of bugs but maybe version 6 will fix that when it comes out. Thanks for all the help though

EDIT: I redownloaded version 5 (I think it may have been updated since my last version) and reinstalled that, and now everything works properly
