Re-Installed Win XP ...now 2 minor probs
Ok, I needed to reconfigure some stuff anyway, so I backed up all of my files and formatted my c: drive. Then I re-installed winxp. Now I'm having 2 minor problems. Before windows boots up, it as me if I want to Load Win XP or my previous OS. What previous OS? I formatted the HD! Is there a way I can get rid of this prompt? Second problem. Not a big deal, but my second HD used to be my D: drive, and now it's F: Any way to get this back to drive D:? Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks
-Jeremy
By the way, I finally got my Fraunhaufer IIS codec back. I'll NEVER remove that again.

it probably has to do with your second hard drive. Did you format it as well? I'll bet XP is seeing something on it that makes it think you have a second OS. That's my best guess.

Ok, need some help....
Formatted the second HD with still no luck. However, I remember when I had Mandrake & XP running as a dual boot and I uninstalled Mandrake. Then LiLo (the Mandrake bootloader) still came on everytime I tried to boot up windows. Someone here gave me a command to type at the DOS prompt to restore the original system file and get rid of LiLo. I did a search of my previous post's but couldn't seem to find it. Any help with this is appreciated.
When I start my computer it asks if want to load winxp home, or "Previous OS on Drive C:", but there's no other OS on Drive C: (or F for that matter. I Formatted C: and then installed winxp again.

Go to your C drive and make sure all files are visible. I don't know exactly how to do it in WinXP, but it should be in Tools->Folder Options. Now that you see all files, find the file called boot.ini. In that file there will be two options, most likely. You can either delete the 2nd option that isn't WinXP, or you can set the time you are allowed to choose the OS to 0, then it will automatically go to WinXP without question.
This is my boot.ini on Win2000
Code:
[boot loader]
timeout=30 ;you can change this to 0 and it won't ask again
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect
;there will be another entry like the one above for the 2nd OS.

And about your second problem. Does windows XP have Computer Managment or Administration tools? There should be Disk Management somewhere in one of those tools, and you can right click on your drive and change the drive letter. I'm suggesting all this looking at Windows 2000, but I know that XP is just a less stable, ugly looking Windows 2000, so it should be about the same.

Can't find Boot.ini
Thanks for the tip Midgetsbro. I got my drive letters assigned back like they used to be. I'm still having problems with boot.ini
I can't seem to find it. I'm showing all files and folders on my HD. I did a search and all I found was "boot.ini.backup", and I modified it, but I'm still getting the stupid bootloader menu. The "boot.ini.backup" file was located in "C:\Windows\pss"
Is there a way I can boot up with a Win98 boot disk and access the boot.ini file on my c: drive through DOS and modify it? Any help extremely appreciated.

boot.ini will be hidden. I just so happened to get a lap top today with Windows XP on it, and I found boot.ini in the C:\ root directory. Even if you don't see it, you can try this:
1. Go to Start->Run
2. type Notepad.exe C:\boot.ini
3. Press enter
4. you will now be editing boot.ini
5. change it so it fixes your problem
6. save and close the file.
Now you shouldn't have that problem anymore.
