Design a new website, use layers, tabels or??

What I want to do is seen in the picture attached with this post.

I want this element to be centered on the users browser.

Should I do it with layers, tables or frames??

What is the advantge and disadvantge with each type??

As you can see, all the diffrent colors represent a diffrent function on the page. The top left is a logo, top right is a banner, left under the logo is the navigation, middle under the banner is the main display window, right under the banner is a side bar with some function that I havent decided on yet. And the last element is a "copyright panel".

The page must function with both Netscape and IE latest versions.

Definately use tables .... that's exactly what they are for, and they will work in all browsers, including new and old versions.

    hello

    in my opinion
you won't be able to achieve what you want using tables or layers so the only thing left are frames.

bsw2112 might be right. Sorry, I didn't catch it the first time I read your poste, but using a table will be difficult or impossible with having a slide bar where you want it. (I've never tried that before.)

    With layers this is possible.

The downside with frames are that they are frames, you cant have any menu scripts floating above all the frames and so on.

Does the overflow tag of the css 2.0 work in both netscape an IE of the later versions???

    hi smirre,

are you talking about overflow-x overflow-y?
if so i don't think that it is a standard yet, but i could be wrong.
regarding frames, it may not be perfect technology but it does the trick. i know that frames were not well supported a while back but today things are getting better

    I'm talking about overflow x and y.

Another problem with frames is that the search engines doesnt seam to get past the first index page. I could be wrong, but a page without frames seam to get a higher score on the search engines.

How do all of you design the basic layout, when making a web site??

    overflow is a standard.

overflow-x or overflow-y are CSS3 Work in Progress.
