DownLoading Pics

What is the most efficient way to down load
jpegs from the internet.
I need to download 50 pics at about 15k a piece.

As of now i am using......

This takes about 12 sec(at worst) on an OK connection.
Is there a way I can speed this process up?

One other thing i thought of.

I need to load these pics into memory.
can i skip the saving to the hard drive and
load the pics from the internet directly into
memory?
