Upgrading Win2000 -> .Net server
The install says it only upgrades from Windows NT4, not 2000 - is there any way to regress a Win2000 install to WinNT4 first or am I going to have to do a wipe and rebuild?

Q.
What is the upgrade path from Windows 2000 Server to Windows .NET Server?
A.
You can easily upgrade from the Windows 2000 Server family to Windows .NET Server. Lessons learned in planning and deploying Windows 2000 will be transferable to Windows .NET Server.
I'd suggest you give Microsoft tech support a call.
You get 2 or 3 free incidents with them.
If they can't help you, let me know and I'll contact Microsoft here and get it sorted.

Notwithstanding those articles, when I put the RC1 for .Net Server into my Windows 2000 professional desktop machine it says "You cannot upgrade from Windows 2000 professional".
That said, the machine in question is a dumping ground for all sorts things so a clean install might not be a bad idea.

There's no upgrade path from a Professional Operating System (eg. WindowsNT4.0 Workstation, Windows2000 Pro, WindowsXP Pro) to a Server Operating System (eg. WindowsNT4.0 Server, Windows2000 Server, Windows .NET Server).
So you'd have to do a full install of .NET Server, or find a server machine...

Will it install in a dual-boot mode though? Did you run the install from within Windows or boot from the CD?

I have books for sale: "MCSD in a Nutshell" and "VB Distributed Exam Cram" - PM me for details. Will also trade for a decent ATX Pentium 2 MB/CPU/RAM combo.

I'd say it should.
Most OSes from Microsoft these days boot from the cd-rom.
Everything from... Win95 or so

I installed an early version booting from the CD. Did you get a Cd from MS or download it?

OK - I'm probably being thick, but how do you get it to boot from the CD. Turning the machine on with the CD in the drive doesn't seem to do anything...

You'd probably have to take a look in the BIOS ("Hit F2 to enter setup" - that kinda thang), and check the boot priority.
Put your CD-ROM before the Hard Drive

Like XP with all the tweaks to make it look like 2K set, mostly.
