    Home Network?

    this is very simple i know i used to know the answer but forgot. what type of eithernet cable do i need to get to link 2 computers together without a hub, is it CAT5 or something like that? And also where can i get one cheap, would radioshack have one? thanks for your answers

    You want a Cat5 (or Cat5e) cross-over cable to go from computer to computer. A patch cable goes from PC to switch.

    Try to connect them thru a Serial Cable (connected on the printer port) if you wana a simple network. All you need is to add to both computers from Add/Remove Programs of Windows Direct Cable Connection program. Once you have instaled this component of MS Windows then you have to start it. One computer as Server and the other one as a Client. Thats all you need! Enjoy your network!

    Thats a pretty gay network mate. Whats the speed of a Printer port?? You can get 100mb, 1000mb Ethernet Ports.

    Trust me mate, I'm a... (pulls out his book) Cisco Networker in Training.

    Its faster using the proper port.

    Serial Connections get speeds of about 50kb or something (maybe 500kb...)
