Question Ok this has me completely confused

Just finished loading some work related database software on home rig for after hours work.

    Ok get this

It writes to the registry (thank god automatically now), needs to be run as a service, but didn't require a reboot. I thought all apps that did that sort of thing required a computer reboot

Logged into the database and it appears to be running smoothly. ***, shows how much l know...

A lot of things can be added to windows without requiring a reboot nowadays.
Like communications protocols, services, applications ... etc.

It also depends on what is being written to the registry. If it is program specific i.e. nothing to do with Windows, then it shouldn't require a restart...if it is altering some Windows setting then it might...it just depends! It also varies with OS as well.

A user-mode program should only need a reboot if it overwrites a DLL that is in already in use, I thought.

    Get these: Mozilla Opera OpenBSD
I have books for sale: "MCSD in a Nutshell" and "VB Distributed Exam Cram" - PM me for details. Will also trade for a decent ATX Pentium 2 MB/CPU/RAM combo.

Coolio, still getting conflicting advise about hard drives etc. They are still mechanical so for your use, we want to make a good decision.

My Boss scored the new 8500 vid card from dubious sources in the US, Justin's right that one rocks hard....
