    F**ked Icon Colors

I'm having a strange problem, and I was wondering if anyone had experienced the same thing... I am running a GeForce3 Ti200 on Windows 2000 Pro. Resolution is 1280x1024x32bit. Now the problem is, that every icon on my screen is displayed in 16 colors. In the top left of programs, in the task bar, the system tray, on the desktop, in explorer... all icons are 16 colors. Everything else is 32bit color, but not the icons. I've uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, and that didn't work. This all happened after I had installed my dual monitors. I took off one of them, and removed the video card, and reinstalled the GeForce 3 drivers, and still no luck. I have checked in the Effects tab of the display properties, and the "Show icons using all possible colors" is checked. It is really starting to piss me off...

Thanks for any input on this.

    Have a look at:
    HKCU\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics\Shell Icon BPP
And try changing the value manually.
Windows 2000 can be a bit cagey about changing settings...I had to restart about 7 times to get rid of the windows version on the desktop...I had to edit the registry myself in the end.

Thanks guys, but I already tried that. This is what I found on yahoo using some strange keywords and it works:

    16-Color Icons with 32bit Graphics

Netmeeting 3.01 has desktop sharing... this creates havoc with Windows 2000 SP2. This is how to fix it:

    1. Open Netmeeting Start->Programs->Accessories->Communications->Netmeeting
    2. Go to Tools->Remote Desktop Sharing...
    3. Go through the wizard and enable the desktop sharing
    4. Right-Click on the Remote Desktop Sharing icon in the system tray and select exit
    5. Go to Tools->Remote Desktop Sharing... in NetMeeting again
    6. Uncheck the enable Remote Desktop Sharing on this computer
    7. Click OK and reboot.
    8. Right-click a blank space on the desktop and choose properties
    9. Go to the effects tab and disable "Show icons using all possible colors"
    10. Click Apply
    11. Re-enable the "Show icons using all possible colors"
    12. Click Apply then OK
    13. You should now have your 24bit color icons back!
