    Cool Apple Computers ROCK!!!

Ok, now that I've pissed everyone off and got everyone's attention! What do you guys think of the new Macs? I have to say myself that it has to be one of the coolest things I've ever seen. I'm not talking about the little desktop ones, but the ones with the tower. And that's not to mention the new 23 inch high-definition, widescreen, THINLINE! multimedia display! I played around with one at Comp USA the other day, and I have to say I really like MacOS X. I believe that Apple has a better GUI in their OS then even Win XP does. But with the prices, they only have to sell 1 computer a year! I've heard these are really good for movie editing and graphical things and media. Has anyone REALLY used Mac before? It appears to be a really good system, but I've always used a PC. Also, how do people develop software for Mac? I thought I'd ask this since this is a VB site. With a PC & Win., Microsoft, Borland, etc. provide lots of tools and languages to interact with a PC. Is there something similar to VB for Mac.
    Just a thought!

OS X rocks, OS 9 is worse than Windows 3.0.

Windows kills mac, linux owns windows, and DOS owns everybody. An apple in play keeps the employer away.

I really do need to get off my backside and check out OSX.

I hate all other Mac OSs though, because they hold your hand faaaaaaar too much.

Oh, and there's no command line. I'd miss being able to use egrep
I refuse to tie my hands behind my back and hear somebody say "Bend Over, Boy, Because You Have It Coming To You".

does it matter? the sheer power of a G4, with OS X running like a bat out o fhell beat th ehell out of a stinking button :@

G4s are far more powerful than any athlon, AND, you can geta windows emulator for OS X (Which, hahaha, actually runs faster on the mac EMULATOR than on proper windows systems! )

It's better than Linux but Not Windows
didnt you get them the wrong way around?????

Macintosh isn't an operating system. Apple computers suck the only thing they are good for is design and word processing. I would rather be running Linux but since I am using Visual Basic and a couple of other programs I am using windows.

Power of a G4 nothing! They might have one over 1 Ghz, but I've never seen it yet. Even if it does exist, it costs almost as much as a brand-name server! I saw an 800 Mhz G4 for somewhere over $2000US. Besides, as others mentioned, Mac OS's are sooooo damned limiting. OSX might be different...but I'm not holding high hopes: after all, it might have a unix kernel, but it's the clowns at Apple that programmed the rest.

you cannot compare Megahertz between different company's making their own CPU.

Couldn't he have meant "Is Macintosh a good computer system"? The word, "system", doesn't have to mean operating system. I think you made an invalid assumption.

I know squat about Mac OS's but i do like the quality of their computers. The G4 looks and feels nice. And that extra wide flat panel is nice touch. It seems like the only way i could get somthing or similiar quality would be to spend the $$ on an SGI computer or a custom job like an alien or Banshee.

    Good Point and BTW!

Apple does make quality products. But their pricy too. I've played around with Mac OS X a little, and I love the interface. Sure you might not be able to do all you can with windows, but, it depends on what you want to do. Personally, I HATE Linux (I've only used Mandrake). It runs slow and there's too much command line stuff. I however did like the KDE interface. Having tried all, Mac seems easy to learn your way around and is more appealing to the eye. I just think it would be good for Microsoft to have a little competition (even though they own most of Apple). Also, Mac OS X IS an operating system by definition. Did you know...................

Bill Gates made a lot of money selling software titles he developed for the Macintosh before Windows was ever designed?

You are exacily right, just like how an AMD 1700 is faster than the P4 2ghz.

    Yep

What's wrong with a command line? For a lot of tasks it's a damn sight faster than a GUI

My teacher owns a dual proscesser mac. Back in the days of old they briefly released on which had 2 proscessers. One proscesser to run mac software, and then ... wait for it .... one proscesser to run dos. I have actually seen it working, and opened it up. now those rocked

Man, that's a bunch of crap!!!

I read that article. That should be illegal for them to have that kind of protection on CDs. Anything that interferes with your computer is just plain wrong. What if you're like me and rip your cds onto your computer to make playlists and play them there. I agree that if they want piracy to stop then they need some kind of protection that won't allow to copy the cd, but won't crash your system! Seems to me like they could get sued REALLY easy for that. So why are they crying about copy protection? Playstation managed to do something to protect their games. Why can't they do the same for audio cds?

playstation made its own platform. It didn't have to be compatable with millions of playstations already out there. The record industry does

Because like someone mentioned in an earlier post, the RedBook standard is established and provides no protection at all. So if someone wants to add protection, they have to changes the standard somewhat. That means they have to find a way to do it that doesn't break existing standards.

The reason it crashes Mac computers is because Mac computer are reading that portion of the disk and think it's data (which it is) and then it can't handle it. So Mac is at fault too because an application (or OS) should be able to recover from errors like that (data read errors).

But Sony is still out of line with this one. I'm sure they thought about it before investing a lot of money in it and corporately decided it was an OK thing to do. Sometimes a company just lacks one person with common sense.
