Meaning it is good to find out functions and junk, but not the best on how to use them, or why use them at all.

Tutorials are much better at explaining why they are useful, how to properly use them, and what other things can be done.

I am not saying PHP.NET is useless, I would visit it first before any site, but tutorials are better for someone who has little or no understanding of PHP.

Not really. It is the best on how and why to use them, because it provides explainations and examples. But that's just functions.

But on how to complete a task, tutorials are better, because you can't just always throw a few functions together. But I think the manual is a very good resource.
