My Site Got Changed... whaddya thing?

I just changed the layout of my site, and I was looking for some feedback from friends, then I realized I don't have any friends, so I'll come to you guys. What do you all think about my new layout?

No it's not for 800x600. I should put a disclaimer on there somewhere saying that anything less than 1024x768 is bad and shouldn't exist on this earth...

Another suggestion (since you asked what we think):

Where it says NEWS, for example, such "title" headers can be placed in <TD> strips, for the added effect. You might want to experiment with that.

Other than that it's fine. and 800*600 rule 1024 foolz.

Joey, I really like the way your site looks.

One thing you may want to fix is the image in the upper left hand corner. You can see the edge of the image on the bottom.

The other thing is I just don't like your logo. I think it's too busy. But that's just me. Your site looks really good. Nice and sharp!

I know about the TH tag.... I use it on most of the other pages on the site. It makes no difference if I use it on that page though because it's already bold and underline, and all that the TH tag does is make the text bold and centers it.

I just realized that I reset the header image to 600px wide, so I can change the table with the news in it, and it looks a little better @ 800x600... but still I don't think anyone should be using 800x600 anymore.

A lot of people still use 800 x 600. Everyone I know who has a computer who isn't computer savvy is still running 640 X 480. I run 1024 x whatever it is on both my computers.

Personally, I can't stand using a computer that is any less that 1280x1024. When text and images are too large, I get headaches really quick. That's why I always seem to create content for my resolution, and then everyone else has a hard time reading it. I've gotta start using the resolution change feature in dreamweaver... lol.

Is the bottom of the image that noticable? I tried to get the background and the image to blend seamlessly, but I guess I didn't succeed.

If you have photoshop, you just make the image way bigger than you need and then use the trim command. It works perfectly and no more lines. I noticed it pretty quickly, but I look for those things because they bug me on my stuff. It's hard to see though. If you don't have photoshop, send me the original image and I'll see about fixing it up for you.

It's a GIF, but did you set transparency there?

I've got photoshop... I think I fixed it. I just used the color picker tool to figure out what the color was at the bottom of the image, then look at the hex value and put that as the background of that column in the table.

Do you think the image would look better without the white behind it? I thought it was a neat effect for my "hacked" AIM client, but maybe without that it will look a little better... what do you think?

I liked the image. You shouldn't have to pick colors. Just enlarge the image until you're sure you have more than enough background. Then use the Trim command and it will take care of it. Then send it to ImageReady and Save Optimized as and you'll have a nice GIF. It's the easiest way I've found to make GIFs. I used to use Picture publisher, but I could never get rid of halo's around the image. It's a nice editor otherwise and much easier to use than photoshop. In fact, I used it for almost all my images except for the logos and some of the gifs.

Pretty good stuff, easy to navigate.... but two points

1. The banner at the top is a bit hard to work out.

2. The colour scheme is slightly boring.

I'm running 1600x1200 ( It's a laptop and that's the native resolution) and get an annoying interlaced effect from the background - which means that 0.3seconds into loading the page I blackout and kill people...

That banner at the top is temporary. It is actually 800 pixels wide, but I changed the width and height property of the image tag for people with lower resolutions. I'm gonna make a new one when I get a chance, but that might not be for a few days...

What do you suggest I add to the color scheme? I wanted it to be simple and without a lot of navigation buttons because I am hosting the site off my DSL, and it has a slow upload speed.
