Remove Windows 98 stuff
I just upgraded to Windows 2K on my laptop from 98. How do i get rid of the 98 stuff to free up some disk space. The c:\windows folder is about 1 gig. How do I get rid of it. When I try to delete it it says that it is a system folder and cannot be deleted.

Boot into DOS and kill it.
Reformat the hard drive and install W2K from scratch - you can run an upgrade install without having the earlier OS install, it should just ask for the CD-ROM or disk (NTFS is best, unless you want to dual boot)

Get these: Mozilla Opera OpenBSD
I have books for sale: "MCSD in a Nutshell" and "VB Distributed Exam Cram" - PM me for details. Will also trade for a decent ATX Pentium 2 MB/CPU/RAM combo.

I did the upgrade because i don't want to have to reinstall all my programs. I am worried that I won't find the drivers for my modem and NIC. I will flaten it as a last resort. But, I am hoping to find a way to just get rid of the windows folder.

Whenever you install an OS, you should always install it clean. I get round it by putting it into a different folder so I avoid reformatting, but it gets tricky sometimes.
What modem and NIC do you have? Windows usually detects them.

For drivers check out the manufacturers web-site, or one of the following:
www.driverguide.com
www.drivershq.com

Let's think about your driver situation for just a second...hmmm....hmmm...let me see...
You've upgraded from Win98 which uses Win9x drivers. You are now using Win2k which uses its own style of drivers so therefore Win2k is very magical and took care of it by it self.

I thought it created a winnt folder like in a clean install, but after looking again you are right. It made the old windows folder the system folder. Thanks.
