    Why say it like that?

    How do you pronounce Darius?

    Me : Da-ree-us

    NOT : Da-rye-us

    Colin Powell is even worse.

    Its Da-rye-us.
    Gentile or Jew,
O you who turn the wheel and look to windward,
Consider Phlebas, who was once handsome and tall as you...

The only reason I know is because there was an author called Darius Just and he worked under a pseudonym because someone used to constantly play on it and call him... dry-as dust.

And English is hardly the language to quibble about pronunciation.

Think of all the ough's there are
    Gentile or Jew,
O you who turn the wheel and look to windward,
Consider Phlebas, who was once handsome and tall as you...
