I live about 60 miles from Cape Canaveral. I get to see all that fire when they launch. Talk about loud. Hell, the shuttle is almost as loud as a harley.

It's eerily quiet when it lands though! After the double sonic booms that is!

I was using a new technique I'm learning called sarcasm. I'm not too good at it yet, but I'm practicing as much as I can.

apparently it costs them buckets when they have to land in california because the shuttle has to be sent by road back to florida

You wouldn't believe how much it costs. They have to stick to 55 the whole way and that's about 5 days worth of rocket fuel. And that doesn't even count the amount of damage done to other vehicles or the roads by the rocket blast.

In the beginning of the shuttle program they always landed at Edwards because it is remote and they can do lake bed landings in case of emergency. We the program became more stable they started landing in Florida. It makes more sense economically to land there but it is safer here in extreme weather.

That idea originally came from model builders. I still have the article where they were using a small scale 747 to transport a shuttle of the same scale. That was several years before an actual shuttle was ever built.

Yeah... but that's not nearly as much fun as off-roading in one of those things.

look at it this way...by the time you can leave you should be about 115% ready, which is a bonus in anybodys eyes

I think parksie took your halo and sold it for a rump steak and 2 packs of ground nutmeg

Again I am on the wrong track from the title of the thread... I thought it was gonna be like a challenge to all VBF members to see if they could land a cessna there without getting shot down by Katie and her cohorts...
