    RTS With DX8

I'm embarking on a journey to make an RTS game using the DX8.1 SDK. I'm wondering if anyone has any links that they could throw up here to give me a direction to look into. I've got the SDK and a pretty good understanding of how it works and can do quite a bit with it. Anything will help. I've found a few good sites, but nothing really concrete. Thanks guys.

Youve got a job on your hands, believe me =).

Though I cant give you any site links (dont know any), I can give you advice. I would start on the terrain itself to begin. Make sure that you can find the height of ANY given point on the terrain.

After that, I would figure out mouse clicking (intersectiong mouse clicks with the terrain is going to be the biggest part). After that, units, buildings, etc. Then User Interface, particle systems, and such.

All of the above is advice, though its pretty much common sense. This is the path I would follow, were I you.

    Good Luck!

Yes, I agree with Sas. Having a team is invaluable, especially in an RTS, since you have to tackle just about every aspect of game programming, as well as getting the various races balanced, etc.
