    doesn't really matter. Some people will explain to you how the circuits are different, and this brand is better than that brand, etc. In the real world, they both work and you'll never notice a difference.

    All else being equal, buy whichever is a better deal.

    Have a Pentium 4 1.7 at work and an Athalon 1.4 at home. It may just be perception, but their seems to be no difference between the two performance wise (despite the Intel having a gig of ram and the Athalon a mere 512mb). So given that the 1.4 athalon is cheaper than the 1.7 Intel, I'd go Athalon again.

    Intel now has the fastest chips out, but price vs performance, AMD wins every time.

    I notice a difference between 1.4 amd tbird and a petium4 1.4
    Amd is just made better and has a faster clock speed.
    I program in: vb6,vb.net,html,c++,java/script

    I think you should concentrate more on things that really matter like
    the color of your computer case.

    Where's that custom case link when you need it?

    There's no doubt that Intel are way ahead in the performance stakes, but you pay a very high price for it.

    I'd choose AMD - they're about half the price and more efficient (less clock cycles for certain instructions which mitigates a lot of the raw clock speed issues).

    AMD. Simply put...an XP1700+ spanks a P4 2.0 so why pay for performance you won't see?

    A decent blank circuit board is only a couple bucks and so is a spool of solder.
