The Toshiba model I wanted was discontinued and only had a 1-year warantee

Numtel, warranties on laptops are far more important than they are on desktops. The parts in them are proprietary and very expensive. Basically if you don't have a warranty and one of your parts dies, you are royally ****ed.

how long are you planning on using this computer? it'll be obsolete in a year or two with what you probably want to do.

I'll use it until 1 THz computers are out. I.e. I'm keeping the thing until it completely dies a horrible death.

If there was one word it would be Dell...very nice...but they cost LOADS unfortunately.
