Anyone doing anything in AI? For instance, Fuzzy Logic, Genetic Algorithms, Neural Networks, Expert Systems?

I probably would be doing something with AI but I have no idea where to start.

    to Dennis

    Well you're a great help, aren't you

I'm thinking that perceptrons are quite easy, although once there's a net of them, it's a bit hairy.

If you need to read up on the theory of Neural Networks, then Krose & van der Smagt's book 'An Introduction to Neural Networks' is good. I got it off the net, can't remember which site, but their addresses are

    for Krose: http://www.fwi.uva.nl/research/neuro
    [email protected]
    for vdSmagt: http://www.op.dlr.de/FF-DR-RS
    [email protected]
    (dlr is German aerospace research)

I think it was vdS's site I got the book.

    Cheers,

AI work is great fun, but extremely complicated!

I once made a planar version of Animat (simple AI agent) that wanders round a "field" searching for food and avoiding predators. It worked too, after a fashion!

Just don't expect to actually be able to create anything that can be called intelligent. The most intelligent system that I have seen that could be modelled by VB is a system called CopyCat, that performs string operations based on examples it is shown. It was originally built in LISp but shouldn't be too hard to port.

Email me if you want some help doing this little venture, you'll enjoy it.
