Registry Fault Windows 98SE
first of all i just thought it was just a minor one off problem that would big fixed and that was it... but its returned...
everytime i start up and get to windows i get the nice alert message that says windows has found a fault whilst trying to access your registry and will re-start fixing the registry...
given no choice what to do ive got to re-start and an old backup of the registry is installed and iam back to a previous registry ( so all those controls ive spent adding to the registry are now lost )
i cant installed any programs that require a re-boot b4 they can be used, because when its finished rebooting for the first time ive got to do it again and an backup of the registry is installed and now the computer does not think the program was never installed in the first place...
ive run norton utilites to fix anything is can find... did some fixing but did not help... ive run the registry fix from microsoft, again nothing still reboots twice... has anyone got an ideas on what i can do?? i dont really want to have to format and start again coz ive started from fresh about 4months ago
does anyone have any ideas??
thank you...

Did you try RegClean.EXE? From MSDN.
You may have to do a warm re-install of 98.

Maybe try running scandisk/chkdisk or something?
Josh
Get these: Mozilla Opera OpenBSD
I have books for sale: "MCSD in a Nutshell" and "VB Distributed Exam Cram" - PM me for details. Will also trade for a decent ATX Pentium 2 MB/CPU/RAM combo.

Thing is Win98 has this registry bug, if you have to many useless reg keys, it starts to corrupt. It going to happen again, after some backing up, I would suggest a format. mabye even pick up a copy of 2k or Xp pro.

at the moment my hard-drive is split to C and D, C holds all my programs and windows and D has got all my files and work...
if i was to format would it be possible to only format drive C and leave everything on drive D alone?? because D has got all my files on... and i dont want to remove all those

yup just go into DOS, and type "format C: /s". If you are afraid it still might delete your D drive, unplug it first.
