    SQL2K installation on Win2K machine

    Hail,

I'm having trouble installing SQL2K. I get the following message:
Microsoft SQL server 2000 Enterprise Edition server component is not supported on this operating system. Only client components will be available for installation.

I'm running Win2K Pro? Do I have the wrong software or wrong operating system or both?

Also, if I do install client, does that mean I won't be able to register the local server???

I think that it must be installed on a server running Windows 2000 Server not Professional

If you want to install on Win2K - you need the Personal/Desktop (can't remember the exact name) edition, or the Developer edition - the Standard Edition I have has the Personal edition on the 2nd CD.

Doing a client install, you can still install all the db drivers, providers, network libraries, etc for connecting to a db server, and the tools like Enterprise Manager and Query Analyzer, just not the actual database server. So everything you would need for connecting to or managing a remote SQL Server.

    Get these: Mozilla Opera OpenBSD
I have books for sale: "MCSD in a Nutshell" and "VB Distributed Exam Cram" - PM me for details. Will also trade for a decent ATX Pentium 2 MB/CPU/RAM combo.
