bad sectors: need advice
i dropped my laptop and now it has (by chkdsks) count, 1 bad sector.
when i try to access that file (zsnes savestate), the program crashes and a very particular hd sound comes:
click
pause
then 4 clicks
then pause
repeat
so i figure, whatever..its one file.
but i keep hearing the clickign sound even after restarts and iwthout running zsnes. the system freezes sometimes and just keeps giving me that sound
is the whole of it pooched?
any ideas?

once a harddrive becomes damaged, it gets progressively worse very quickly. This (I think) is due to fragments of damaged disk inside the harddrive case damaging more of the disk. Get the data backed up as soon as possible and replace the disk (if you can)

Yes they are very easy but it would void the warranty.
Call your manufacturer.

Yeah, 20 gig laptop drives aren't much these days...just make sure you get the right size (9.5 or 12.5mm..you can just measure it )

You can upgrade RAM for pretty cheap as well. You can get a stick of 256 for less than $30 for a desktop PC, so for a laptop, I don't think it should be too much more, no more than $50. What type of laptop is it?

LOL! I did read it, but I have a tendency to skim through posts to get to the end faster... I must have skimmed a little too fast over that one...

I'd have your laptop all the same It doesn't sound that bad. I personally don't see the point of upgrading RAM, it never seems to improve the speed. CPU or Graphics Card seems to have a big impact though.

Sastraxi:
Rick: Depends on how much is in the system in the first place...I have 512MB, if I upgraded it wouldn't make one bit of a difference...

I'd just get a new drive. there's not really a lot you can do for the grahics, I'd just get a new one.

this thing only goes up to 160, and i can't acutally get 160 because the its 64 onboard and 64 in the second slot, and there's no such thing as a 96mb stick.
i'd have to downgrade to a 32mb onboard mobo and then get a 128mb stick. stuuuuupid.
but hey this thing is a piece of garbage anyhow. i'm sure you'd agree if you have one
