Colder im thinking about getting XP next week. I herad that Micro$oft has done away with DOS altogther. Is this true? Then how do you compile command line applications?
XP Doesn't have DOS at all it just has a command line that you can use. (very little noticable difference). You certainly can compile applications as I have been for the last 6 months!
I don't currently have XP in front of me as i'm using Win 2k. If my memory is correct they aren't that different in terms of setting the path.
Right Click My Computer --> Properties
Advanced Tab
Click Environment Variables
Look for a PATH variable in the System Variables section. If there isn't one add it and set it to your bin directory.
Thats should set it up.

Ford? Theres an infinite number of monkeys outside that want to talk to you about a script of hamlet they've produced!
Thanks for the tip Mrs Kensington. So when i get Windows XP i shouldn't have to pull up the autoexec.bat file to set the path? And does this process still require a reboot to take effect?
