This is proabaly the most annoying thing that I have on my pc righ tnow.. when I start my pc, and I click on a person to log in (in xp) where its says "loading personal settings" it says there for about 3-4 min!!! and then all fo the sudden everything is loaded up on my desktop and a erro message tells me that it couldnt open "openme.exe" and I should search for it... I checked EVERYWHERE for an automatic start up for suck a file but I dont see it anywhere...

Post What technique have you tried?

Please post a list of "everywhere".

I can only think of the StartUp folder and Runx keys in the registry.

I think I read something about this in a PC mag a while back. The article said it boiled down to a network hub, or something to do with the Internet. I'll try to find it (if I'm not feeling to lazy ).

Fianlly got rid of it.. the problem was hidden inside the registry!

if anybody has the same problem just do this:

    Go to Start then Run

    Run the program "regedit"

    Search the registry for "openme.exe"

It should find it in a line of the registry which says "explorer.exe openme.exe"

Just edit that line to say only "explorer.exe"

    Done!

Question What was the key's name?

I would like to know the name of the key.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

the key is called "Shell" and it should only say Explorer.exe

    Talking

    I'll say this much:

I was surprised to find a Windows NT key on my Windows 98 installation.

    Thanks for listing the key.
