slow...
hi ppl,
i could swear that the general trend of software is getting to the "big and slow", "lag 'n' sag". i just installed office XP the other day and one of the new "improvements" is that it seems to run even slower then office 2k did... i mean comeon... it's a word processor, how much processing power does it need? i remember the good old days of office 95, when word ran happily on 16 megs of ram on my old 486.
the other noticable slow down is Visual Studio.NET Beta2. i got the cds a few days ago, and i ran it on a WinNT sp6 on a K7-800mhz 196mb ram. and it lagged... i never had problems with VS6, why does VS.NET suddently require so much resources? i can't understand what the ppl in microsoft are putting in the programs, but it seems rediculously bulky.
i don't know the system requirements for whistler, buti get the feeling that it is gonna be HUGE. win2k is suppose to run ok on my machine, but again it lags.
the thing that worries me the most is when i think about my programs. will they lag and suffer in performance because whistler is badly written or overly bulkier? and if so is it worth it for the better facilities that whistler will offer in compensation for the performance degrade?
umm... but then again i may just me moaning for no reason again... but sometimes when i jsut want to do something, i.e. word processing and it takes half a year to load the file it kinda gets me a little annoyed.
