<rant>Whiney Lobby Groups can BITE ME!
Okay, this rant is aimed at the NAACP, but it applies to every lobby group in DC.
I came across a CNN article where the NAACP is complaining about under-representation in TV and movies. They are looking to Congress for help.
Damnit, people, the point behind the government is not to wipe your noses. If you feel that you are getting a raw deal then you go out there and you fight to make it right, you fight to fix it. If you don't think there are enough blacks in prime-time, then you come up with shows that people want to see what have more blacks. Come up with opurtunities, with scripts, with pilots. Let me see product. And then if you still get turned down not because the product is bad, but because you are black, then we will work with Congress. But just because it isn't there doesn't mean there is a conspiracy.
And another thing... while I'm on this rant... why is it we have BET? Can you imagine the amount of social injustice that would be done if there were to ever be a WET? But everyone looks the other way and lets there be a BET.
Well, here is news for you... BET doesn't go off air durning prime time. It is right there, competing for viewers with the major networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, UPN). If HBO can make a show to steal thunder from the networks, then you had best try with BET before you complain.
Heh... it is kind like work. My boss doesn't want to hear there is a problem. He wants to hear that every solution available has failed and that we are still trying.
Okay, my rant is over. It isn't meant to racist. I just find the NAACP a particularly cry-baby lobby group that has forgotten how to fight for something.
'Course, I guess I have the luxury of not falling into any special interest group, so I don't have a lobby in DC for me. I don't smoke, I'm white, I don't have AIDS, I don't take Ritalin, I'm not gay (most of the time), I drive a Japanese car, I don't belong to a union (hence I actually do work), yadda yadda.
