Man arrested after reporting 'theft' of cannabis

A man has been arrested after calling North Carolina police to report the attempted theft of his cannabis.

Emmitt Scott, 60, of Roanoke Rapids, called 999 to say he thought intruders were sneaking into his back yard at night to steal his marijuana plants.

Local police were stunned. When officers arrived at his home, they found more than two dozen pot plants growing amidst his squash and collards in his greenhouse.

Scott has been charged with the manufacture of marijuana. It's estimated Scott's pot was worth about $1 million (£700,000) on the street.

Scott told police he has been growing pot for about 10 years to help with his various medical problems but North Carolina law doesn't permit the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes.
