I need to teach someone VB.Net (2010 if that matters.)
A little description about my student:
My student is an intelligent young man but very new to "computer thingies".
He is not a power user, doesn't know anything about core computer science.
He wants to learn programming just as a hobby.
But, I think, if he gets interested in this, probably I'll be able to convince him to take CS as major.
My target is to make him efficient enough so that he will be able to impress his friends (and probably GF too) showing his own little desktop apps within 2-3 months.
In next step I'll start web programming.
I'm looking for a TEACH-YOURSELF type book which is written in clear language and good explanation.
Obviously I'll help him if he gets stuck, but I don't want to (and don't have time to) babysit him.
I have absolutely no idea about beginner level books. So, please help me on this.
In addition if you can suggest for good "how-computer-works" or "fundamental-of-computers" type books, that would be a great help too.
Thanks.
